Marathon Monday week 5

Week 5 was rough on me. I have some residual soreness from Superhero, which made running difficult some days.
Sunday..... rest day. Three mile walk
Monday..... 5 miles at the local reservoir. It was horribly hot and my shin hurt, so my pace was 13'31"

Tuesday.... two miles. I had to switch back to my old shoes for a while until the new ones break in better. 12'37" pace

Wednesday.... 2.6 Miles at the boardwalk. My legs felt decent and my pace was so much better at 11'37" a little windy but a beautiful day.

Thursday. ... achy again, my 40 minute run became a 2 mile walk. Starting to worry about Spartan on Saturday...
Friday.... 1.5 Mile run that was a total fail. I decided to defer Spartan

Saturday.... no Spartan? Let's lay down pavers instead. I hauled bricks and thanked my lucky stars I deferred because the 3 miles became 5 at Spartan and the hills would have killed me.

Saturday. ... I rode my bike to volunteer and the run at a local 5k. Our GOTR girls helped with the kids' dash and then it was on to the 5k. It was close to 90 and humid, but I managed an 11'29" pace! Nothing like having friends and neighbors watching to move you along. Also did some more paver work!

Not a great week, but I got it done!

Ocean Road School Sunday Runday

This morning, one of our local elementary schools had their inaugural 5k and fun run. They called it a 1st annual, but we won't go there, it's a huge pet peeve for me!
My day started with a 1.25 mile bike ride to the start, picked up my recyclable bib, and headed to the finish area to help host the Fun Run with some of my fellow coaches and kids from Girls on the Run.

Everyone who participated got a medal and a sticker. They all had so much fun, it was so cute!

After a 30 minute break, it was time to line up for the 5k. The course was through the neighborhood surrounding the school, very shady, and very well marked. At each half mile mark, whether planned or coincidence, was a family with their hose or sprinkler facing the street for us to run through. It was amazing, and very much needed. The water  stops were at each mile mark and manned by Daisy Girl Scouts. The cuteness was overflowing.
The only complaint was the locals, and this was not the fault of the race directors. At least 5 drivers were out on the course, and not all of them were concerned about the runners. It was very rude, and very unnecessary.
I look forward to next year's event!

No Spartan? Staying Active Anyway!

Today I'm supposed to be running Spartan with Gigi from Running on Candy. My legs have been so heavy lately, and the Tuxedo Spartan is so hilly, that I decided to defer and stay on the safe side. NYC marathon is way more important!
What to do instead? Help the hubs with our backyard paver project!

Let's be honest, the hubs is doing the hard part. He is laying down the sand and the bricks, which is very precise and would make me insane. I am delivering the bricks. Some of them are right next to the patio, and some are around the opposite side of the house, so I am getting my steps in. I even did some shoulder presses and triceps extensions while I walked the bricks over. It's how I roll.
Have you ever laid paver stones at your own house?

Thursday Thoughts on Laziness

I have been so lazy lately.
For real, I get up in the morning and play Bingo on my iPad for about two hours, do the laundry and the dishes, and then go to work. On my training days, I run.
On my cross training days....well, like.i said, I've been lazy.
So
I will be making myself a daily schedule after work today. I will plan in my precious Bingo time, because I need it, and some time for my coloring books.

I printed out the calendar and worksheets for P90X3, since the workouts are shorter than the original series, making it more likely that I will do it every day.

I will get my house clean and organized over the summer and get back on track, so that I can complete the NYC marathon without dying.
Have you ever gotten into a lazy funk? Any suggestions?
